About HomeWarrantyCalc

HomeWarrantyCalc was built for homeowners trying to figure out whether a home warranty is actually a good deal — without wading through sales calls or marketing pages designed to make every plan sound essential. A home warranty's real cost is never just the advertised monthly premium; it's the premium plus a service fee every time you actually use it.

Our calculators combine both into one honest number, and let you compare plan tiers and service fee levels using your own quotes.

Our Approach

Every calculator shows its work — the annual premium, the total service fees, and the combined total — so you understand exactly how a number was reached, not just see a final figure. All of our tools run entirely from the numbers you enter (your own quoted premium, your own service fee, your own expected usage) rather than a fixed, hidden formula tied to any one provider's pricing.

How We Calculate and Source Data

Where a calculator needs a general reference figure — like the repair-cost ranges used in the break-even tool — we use broad, industry-average ranges for that category of system or appliance, not a specific provider's coverage amount or a guaranteed real-world cost. Those figures are meant to illustrate the shape of a decision, not to substitute for an actual quote or a contractor's estimate for your home. Every calculator page states this explicitly alongside its result.

We do not currently publish a dated provider-price database or comparison table — that is a planned addition, and any such data will carry a visible source and last-checked date before it's published, rather than an unsourced "starting at" figure.
